ISE Brighton Summer School for Young Learners English course

2023 Junior Vacation dates:

Junior Vacation classes will run from 11 June to 27 August 2023. 1-4 weeks course duration. 

Courses are suitable for children and teens ages 8 - 17 and are delivered at a partner school in the city (not at ISE Brighton). 

The Junior Vacation programme is a complete package of activity based study, homestay accommodation, group activities, cultural visits, team sports and weekend excursions. Courses run from a single week to up to 4 weeks, allowing young students the chance to learn, have fun and make friends from all over the world. 

We know that you learn best by doing, which is why the Young Learner lessons are full of activities where you use and practise English. Experienced and student-focused teachers make sure lessons are exciting and fun. 

Classes

Students study Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 12:00 &/or 13:00 to 16:30, with short breaks. Learning is activity based with an emphasis on speaking and building young students' confidence in a second language. Classes start at Elementary level with maximum class size of 16. Students will also receive homework to be completed for the next day. 

Teachers

Teachers are carefully selected to work with young students and have specific Young Learners qualifications and experience. They work to develop each student's English using a range of communicative classroom techniques. 

Students

There are many different nationalities at the school and English is the only language used in class! Expect to meet students from all over the world! 

Activities

Young Learner activities include: Paddle boarding, Beach Volleyball, Cinema, Football Coaching, Ten Pin Bowling, Indoor Rock Climbing, Racketball, Treasure Hunt, Ghost Walk, Hip Hop and Salsa Dance Workshop, Brighton Horse Races visit, Sea Fishing, Raft Building (& Testing!), Sea Canoeing, River Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Football, Basketball, Tennis, Kung Fu, Pottery Class, Evening Disco, Team Frisbee, Rounders/Baseball and Park Olympics.

All activities are run and accompanied by a qualified instructor or responsible Youth Leader as appropriate.

Weekend Excursions

Organised every weekend, full day excursions to popular destinations are an excellent way of discovering more of England, famous sights, English history and culture. Excursions are included every Saturday and optional on Sundays to: 

  • London including a guided Sightseeing. Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, St James’s Park & Madame Tussauds.
  • Oxford, Windsor & Eton College
  • Cambridge & Greenwich
  • Bath & Stonehenge

Optional Extras

We can also offer trips to many destinations as well as complete weekend trips (3 days, 2 nights) to Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam and Scotland. We use Discovery Tours for external trips. These trips are charged directly by Discovery Tours, please contact them for a quote.

Accommodation

Accommodation is very important for younger students. Homestay accommodation hosts have been carefully chosen and inspected. All hosts hosting under 18 year old students will require a DBS certificate. 

Rooms are organised on a sharing (twin) basis. We can place Young Learners together in groups of friends, or mix with other nationalities if requested. 

Single rooms are available for a £60 per week supplement. 

Our hosts are located throughout Brighton & Hove. All homestays are inspected by school staff and then again every 24 months. 

Junior students aged 17 and under can be accommodated unaccompanied in a homestay for a maximum of 4 weeks, as per UK regulation. Students wishing to staying longer than 4 weeks must be accompanied by a parent / guardian.

Care & Safety

From arrival in the UK until departure, students are supervised to ensure their safety and comfort. Students are monitored during lunchtime and throughout all afternoon activities. All students will use Brighton & Hove Buses to travel around Brighton and are given weekly bus tickets for the duration of their stay.

24/7 Safety Plan

For complete piece off mind, total 24/7 care and supervision is also available for younger students, available by special request. 

The 24/7 care plan ensures students will be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times: in the homestay, on any journey, at school, on activities, breaktimes and any other free time, costing a supplementary £120 per week.
