Access to medical treatment in the UK
Longer term students staying in Brighton are advised to register with a local GP (General Practitioner or doctor) and a dentist.
Some medicines and painkillers are available from chemists / pharmacies, but a doctor may prescribe you a course of medicine. Prescriptions for medicine cost £8.80 in the UK.
All medical treatment is free to EU citizens, but medicine must be bought. Students from non-EU countries will receive free access to emergency medical treatment but usually receive a bill after the treatment is complete.
We recommend that all students take out appropriate private travel and medical insurance in their own country before travelling to the UK.
HealthCare International Insurance
If you require insurance for your trip, whether it be for health, possessions or travel, ISE Brighton recommends HealthCare International for policies that suit international students and visitors to the UK.
