TOLES Legal Exams
Our Legal English course follows the TOLES syllabus and is for students who already have a knowledge and foundation in law.

These examinations have been specifically designed for international lawyers, law students and legal translators who wish to work in the area of English law.
The examination is recognised by some of the UK’s leading law and accountancy firms together with international companies and organisations such as Sony Ericsson, Siemens, the European Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court and the European Central Bank.
The examination can be taken at three levels:
1. Foundation
This focuses on practical legal vocabulary in real life situations and consolidates basic grammar. A course of study leads to a 90 minute exam testing the student’s legal reading and writing skills.
2. Higher
Here the focus is on the further development of practical reading, writing and listening skills in authentic legal situations. There is a 90 minute legal reading and writing paper and a 30-45 minute listening paper.
3. Advanced
This exam measures a student’s legal English skills against the standards required of a native English speaker working within a legal environment. At this level there is a 120 minute exam which tests practical reading, writing and drafting skills together with knowledge of register and business idioms.
There are five set exam dates each year and the current fees range from £60 for the Foundation exam, £75 for the Higher exam and £95 for the Advanced.
