A short history of the city

Royal party animal George IV fell in love with Brighton back in the 18th Century. Since then the city has been a magnet for visitors in search of fun, frolics and fresh sea air.  Its famous for its majestic Regency squares and crescents, iconic Royal Pavilion and famous piers. Today Brighton is well-known for being a welcoming and diverse city with a passion for culture, creativity and sustainability. Above all it hosts a blend of tolerant, open-minded culture alongside historic landmarks and traditional heritage.

In the early 2000’s Brighton became famous as a music scene, highlighted with Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique. It was first held in the summer of 2003 which attracted 500,000 visitors to the city for the event!

In more recent times the city’s football team, Brighton & Hove Albion have made an impression on the Premier League. From 2023 they also play in the Europa League, following several excellent seasons. If you are a football fan, the modern AMEX stadium is an ideal place to watch a world class match. Brighton host teams such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and European opponents.
